What is BGG Companion?

BGG Companion is an iOS app for board game hobbyists. It connects to your free BoardGameGeek account to display your game collection, log plays, recommend games for game night, and answer rules questions using AI.

Getting Started

Create a free account at boardgamegeek.com if you don't have one
Open BGG Companion and enter your BGG username and password
Your collection loads automatically
Tap any game to log a play or ask a rules question
Use the Rules tab to ask AI questions about any supported game

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you need my BGG username and password?

Your credentials are used to fetch your game collection and sync play logs directly with BoardGameGeek. They are stored securely in your device's Keychain and are never sent to our servers.

Which games have AI rules support?

BGG Companion supports rules Q&A for the BGG top 100 rated games including Brass Birmingham, Ark Nova, Gloomhaven, Dune Imperium, Pandemic Legacy and more. The list grows with every update.

How many AI queries do I get?

10 free AI queries per day, resets at midnight.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Delete Account. This removes all data stored on your device including your BGG credentials. Your BoardGameGeek account and play history on BGG are completely unaffected.

My collection isn't loading

BGG's servers can be slow. Pull to refresh or wait 30 seconds and try again. If the problem persists, log out and back in from Settings.

The AI gave me a wrong rules answer

AI can make mistakes. Always verify important rulings against your physical rulebook. If you spot a consistent error, please contact us so we can improve the rulebook data.

Is BGG Companion affiliated with BoardGameGeek?

No. BGG Companion is an independent app and is not affiliated with BoardGameGeek LLC.

Troubleshooting

Login fails — double check your BGG username and password at boardgamegeek.com first
Collection shows 0 games — make sure your games are marked as "Owned" on BGG, not just wishlisted
Play log didn't sync — check your internet connection and try logging the play again
AI query limit reached — your 10 daily queries reset at midnight local time
