BGG Companion

Effective: 2026-03-23  ·  Developer: Francis Clarke  ·  British Columbia, Canada

Overview

BGG Companion connects to your BoardGameGeek account to display your game collection, log plays, and answer rules questions using AI. This policy explains what data we handle and how.

The short version: your BGG credentials stay on your device, your rules questions are sent to our AI server to generate answers, and we don't sell any data.

Cookies and Network Sessions

BGG Companion does not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies of any kind. When you sign in, a session cookie is received from BoardGameGeek's servers and held in memory only for the duration of your app session. This cookie is used exclusively to authenticate your API requests (fetching your collection and logging plays). It is never written to disk, never shared with third parties, and is discarded when the session ends.

No web views that could trigger third-party cookie consent dialogs are used in the app.

Data Stored on Your Device

The following is stored locally on your device only and is never sent to our servers:

You can delete all of this at any time via Settings → Delete Account.

Data Sent to Third-Party Services

BoardGameGeek API

Your BGG username and password are sent directly to BoardGameGeek's servers to authenticate and fetch your collection and play history. This is governed by BoardGameGeek's Privacy Policy. We do not store your credentials on our servers.

BGG Companion Rules Server

When you ask a rules question, the game name and your question text are sent to our server hosted on Railway to generate an AI answer. Questions are not stored after the response is returned.

Anthropic Claude API

Our rules server uses Anthropic's Claude AI to generate answers. Your question and relevant rulebook excerpts are sent to Anthropic's API. This is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

Superwall

BGG Companion uses Superwall to manage subscription paywalls. Superwall collects device identifiers (such as a randomly assigned device ID) solely to manage subscription entitlements. Superwall does not receive your BGG credentials, game data, or rules questions. This is governed by Superwall's Privacy Policy.

What We Do Not Collect

Your Rights

You can delete all locally stored data at any time via Settings → Delete Account in the app. This removes your BGG credentials and all cached data from your device. Your BoardGameGeek account and play history on BGG are unaffected.

If you are in the EEA, UK, or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR or CCPA. Contact us at the address below with any requests.

Children's Privacy

BGG Companion is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
